5/27/08 - Ryan Mostyn In Orlando for NCAA Conference
I have just returned from a tremendous trip to
Walt Disney World's Yacht and Beach Club. This was the site for the 2008
National Student Athlete Leadership Development Conference. There were
approximately 400 student athletes from all over the United States that were
hand picked to represent their individual institutions and they were some of the
most intelligent and awesome people I have ever had the pleasure to be
surrounded by.
We spent the majority of our days in conference rooms with smaller team groups
of different colors to discuss pertinent issues on our respective campuses, and
also spent a lot time finding our own leadership qualities and working to
improve them. It was great to hear the ideas of fellow peers from around the country and to get a little bit of
their experiences on campuses as far away as California and Hawaii.
The NCAA spared no expense when planning this banquet we were treated to a four
course dinner each night at the conference and had a formal dinner/dance on our
last evening. It was awesome to see people who had just met the previous day
come together and have a great time as if they had known each other for years.
Overall the experience was one that will not forget anytime soon. I hope to try
and take the ideas and lessons that were taught at this conference and bring
them to our campus and most importantly our team. It was an honor to represent
the IUP Athletic Department and the
university as a whole.

3/19/08 - Mostyn Selected to Participate in NCAA Conference in Orlando
Ryan
Mostyn has been selected as one of two IUP student-athletes to participate in
the NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference in Orlando, Florida.
The NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities. The NCAA has increased the number of opportunities for student-athletes to participate in the conference to 700 beginning with the 2008 event taking place May 25-29 in Orlando, Florida at the Walt Disney World Resort.
In addition to Mostyn, IUP softball player Sam Goettman was also selected.
