The Mental Game of Baseball
"Self-discipline
if a form of freedom. Freedom from laziness and being sluggish, freedom
from expectations and demands of others, freedom from weakness and fear and
doubt, freedom from ego."
You can't just urge someone to be self-disciplined; but rather you have to build a structure of behavior and attitude. Behavior shapes thought. Positive behavior shapes positive thoughts and self-discipline, negative behavior shapes negative thoughts and selfishness.
If a player disciplines his behavior, then he will also discipline his mind. The mind is better with balance and ease, rather than aggression and lack of self-discipline. If the body impersonates self-discipline long enough, the mind will adopt it.
It is easiest to change the mind by changing behavior, thus creating a positive attitude and self-discipline and the ultimate goal of inner freedom.
