8/30/07 - Gett Traded and Notches First Professional Win
Alex
Gett (1-0), who the Washington Wild Things acquired in a trade Wednesday with
the St. Joe's Blacksnakes of the American Association, started the second game
of a doubleheader vs. the Slippery Rock Sliders and picked up his first
professional win on the mound. He pitched five innings, giving up three
hits and two runs. He struck out six and walked only one.
Gett was at Washington's Consol Energy Park in May for the Frontier League tryout and draft but was not selected. He also attended a tryout at Slippery Rock prior to the season, but was not selected. After pitching with his local summer teams for most of the summer, he was given the chance to pitch professionally by St. Joe on August 12 and has had tremendous success during his short professional career.
Both Gett and IUP Assistant Coach Anthony Rebyanski now look to the Frontier League play-offs which start Tuesday, September 4. Rebyanski's Windy City Thunderbolts are currently leading the league with 66 wins.
