Getting to Know ... Brian Urban

Q: What baseball memory stands out the most for you?
A:  In College my best memory of baseball was in my sophomore year. I went 3-for-7 with a double and two RBI's against Shippensburg.  Then afterwards I hung out with my mom, sister and girlfriend Janelle. It was a great weekend.
 


Q: What is the best part of being a college athlete?
A: Being able to play baseball with other great players all year and having the means to connect with a lot of knowledge in Sport Administration.


Q: What is the best advice you have ever received from a coach?
A: Baseball is a game of failure. Don’t quit on it, and never be satisfied.

Q: Who is your most influential role model?
A: There is no single role model for me. I would say I have two main motivational factors, my mother and father. They are what motivate me to be a better person and work hard.

Q: What celebrity would you most like to meet?
A: Ryan Reynolds. He is hilarious.

Q: Do you have a favorite type of music you listen to?
A: O.A.R. is my favorite band by far.  It is a type of reggae rock.  I love them because their music has a good message in it and it has a relaxing vibe to it.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A:  "Wedding Crashers" and "Just Friends"

Q: What is your favorite sports movie?
A: Major League 2, it’s a classic

Q: Do you have a favorite food or meal?
A: Chinese food! I can’t get enough of it.

Q: What is your favorite holiday?

A: Definitely, Christmas.

Q: What is your favorite professional baseball team?
A: The Bucos! I don’t care how awful they are, I love my home town team!

Q: Who is your favorite professional baseball player?
A: The second basemen for the Orioles, #1 Brian Roberts.

Q: Name one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you.
A:  I was a two year member of my high school’s “Dungeons and Dragons” club.

Q: What is the place that you haven’t traveled to, that you would most like to visit?
A: Tahiti, I would love to live out the rest of my days their.

Q: What would be your dream job?
A: A facility/operational Manager for Dick’s Sporting Goods Corporate Offices.

Q: What is it that attracted you to IUP?
A: The fun atmosphere and friendly class size.

Q: What do you like most about the city of Indiana?
A: The uptown area and the May flower buffet.

Q: What baseball team in the PSAC would you most like to beat?
A: Slippery Rock, I really dislike their whole university ... a lot.

Q: What is your favorite thing about the sport of baseball?
A: It doesn’t matter what size you are, it is how you use what you got.

Q: What is your earliest baseball memory?
A: Probably when I was about 5 years old and I refused to wear baseball pants for about two years, all I would wear was my favorite pair of “stretchy” fit jeans. 

Q: If you could play any other sport in college, what would it be?
A: Track or cross country.

Q: What (if any) pre-game superstitions or rituals do you have?
A: I have more of a every day ritual with baseball. I usually tap or hit everything I use twice, because it is my favorite number and I find it lucky.

Q: What are some of your favorite things to do in your spare time when you are not playing baseball?
A: I love to go home and enjoy life with my family and friends. Basically just relax and have a good time. I especially enjoy hanging out with Mr. Chase Robert McNutt!

Q: What was your favorite TV show growing up?
A: "Married with Children", I thought that show was awesome for the longest time!

Q: What is your favorite TV show now? Do you have a favorite character on that show?
A: Late night with Connon O’Brien and Family Guy.  My favorite character in Family Guy is Brian the Dog, he’s great.

Q: What are your career goals
A: To be working with in the company of Dick’s Sporting Goods, Fitness Facility or high school with in the Pittsburgh area.  Hopefully after about three years or so I will be moving up in what ever position I have obtained and continue to progress and succeed in my work.

Q: What does it take to be academically successful at IUP?
A: Focus and be able to properly manage your time, which I have learned over my past three years here.

Q: What does it take to be athletically successful at IUP?
A: Personal determination to work hard and not get to lazy.  Taking advantage of what is availed to you at this baseball program and using it to your benefit.  Being able to not take the game so seriously and just have fun with it.  Also, keeping in mind that being a collegiate athlete is an extreme privilege and honor helps put things in perspective as well.
